How  we  build  ecommerce  websites

For every custom ecommerce store, we follow 4 major steps: consult, home page design, milestones, and support.

Consult

We perform an initial consultation to understand the business's vision for their ecommerce store. This helps us discover the requirements of our client. The consultation also helps us calculate how many milestones we require to implement the ecommerce store.

Home Page Design

We design and build the home page of the website. This helps set the base styles of the website. This includes the required sections of the home page, navigation, cart, footer, and general brand styles.

Milestones

We build the ecommerce websites in multiple milestones. The number of milestones depends on the size of the website. For example, a small ecommerce store might only require 1 milestone. In comparison, an ecommerce store with hundreds of products and custom inventory integrations could require up to 6 milestones. This is influenced and initially calculated from the consultation.

Support

We offer long-term support and updates for the websites we build, unlike a one-off freelancer who disappears tomorrow. This is critical because Google and AI search platforms such as ChatGPT constantly update their algorithms that determine how clients find a business. We also perform maintenance updates to keep the website secure and improve purchase conversions.

  • How long does it take to build an ecommerce website?

    The timeline for the ecommerce website depends on many factors. Before we build an ecommerce store, we only commence after collecting all the required information. This includes custom photography, graphic design, and copy (the writing that you want displayed on the website), product information, collections, and more. Most businesses are quite busy, so it takes up to 1-2 months to gather all the content. This time also includes the back-and-forth of us giving feedback on the content provided. After we have all the content, the development takes another 1-2 months on average, but again, this depends on many factors, including:

    • how many revisions a client requests,
    • the number of pages of the website,
    • the complexity of the sections (e.g. custom animations).

    Therefore, an initial consultation gives more clarity on a timeline.

  • Do you guarantee my store will make money?
    Although it sounds like a silly question the answer is clearly no. We build an ecommerce website to the best of our technical ability as software developers. At the end of the day, it depends on the client and their ability to market their ecommerce store through social media, paid ads, an existing client base, and more. Also, the best performing websites are the ones that are updated regularly, especially to accommodate search engine updates and improving the customer experience. So no, we will never give you an unrealistic guarantee. We do guarantee that we will build a high quality ecommerce website that fits your given budget. We do not give the false hope of build it and they will come, and anyone that tries to give such a guarantee is giving a sales pitch.
  • When can you start my website?
    We usually start an ecommerce website 2-4 weeks after an initial commencement payment. Due to high demand, sometimes it can take up to 1-2 months, but we will clearly advise you on our waiting list when signing up.
  • How much does a website cost?
    We do not provide blanket quotes because we custom-build an ecommerce website to the requirements of a client. After an initial consultation, we can provide you with clearer pricing based on milestones. Book an appointment, and we are more than happy to chat.
  • Why don't you just use website templates? They're cheap, right?

    Website templates are great. They allow micro businesses to build websites on a budget. However, those websites are cheap for a reason:

    • they are generic because a website template owner wants to sell to as many people as possible,
    • they lack full customisation because they are built with restrictive tools,
    • they aren’t performance optimised,
    • they fail to match the style of a brand,
    • they fail to rank well because they lack expertise.

    Therefore, the small to mid-sized businesses we work with invest in a custom website because they know the difference between a generic website and a high-quality one crafted by a team of experts. The difference measurably affects their bottom line.

  • Have you worked in my field before?
    The answer is probably yes or that we’ve at least worked in a similar field. We’ve worked with builders, startups, solopreneurs, doctors, audiologists, fitness experts, animal care professionals, restaurants, tradespeople, and much more. We are software programmers, so although we have a wide range of experience, we must work with you to understand your domain and then present that to the online world. Hence, we are able to build custom websites that work in a wide range of businesses in various fields because we know what works well on a website after building them from scratch on a daily basis for almost a decade.
  • Do you use AI to generate websites?
    We definitely use AI to help automate some tedious tasks of building a website. However, top-quality custom websites that perform the best require handcrafted expertise. There is no free lunch here. In other words, leave the expertise to us. We are professionals and know what works well after building hundreds of custom websites over the last decade. We constantly add new tools and techniques to building our websites and AI is no different. If we think it brings more value to our clients, it would be stupid and negligent of us not to adapt and use it.
